It's an old-school automatic that has no electronics, just hydraulic control. Its main feedback to know what you and the car are doing is the throttle cable. If that gets out of adjustment the shift points and shift quality suffer so you might want to check that. A search here should bring up the adjustment procedure. (If it gets way out of whack it can damage the transmission.) There is also a band adjustment that is easily accessible on the side of the transmission but I'm not sure what gears that affects.
I have two 9000 automatics and they generally perform well but the transmission frequently is not in the best gear to take advantage of the turbocharger and the engine's power curve. For such times you can select the appropriate gear manually.
Unfortunately there is little support for this transmission any more since Erikkson Industries abandoned the pre-GM Saab business. In the U.S. it is found only in a few low-volume cars from decades ago, the Saab 9000 probably being the most common.
