Parasitic draw Posted by JerseySaab [Email] (#666) [Profile/Gallery] (more from JerseySaab) on Wed, 6 Oct 2021 13:35:21 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I'm having a problem with my '95 CSE where the battery goes flat after sitting for 2 or 3 days. To start the car you have to either charge the battery or use a jump starter. Then it will generally be OK for the day but after a few days of sitting the battery will be down again. The battery is about 2 years old, tests OK with an electronic tester, and alternator voltage is in the normal range.
Measuring draw with everything off, when hooking up the ammeter it first pulls about 1.25 amps for about 10 seconds then drops to 33.5 milliamps and stays there. (I assume the initial surge is from computer initialization.) I'm not sure what the specification is on these cars but I thought that a draw of between 25 and 50 ma is OK for most vehicles. I could be wrong but it doesn't seem that's enough to pull a fully charged 650 CCA battery down to about 40% charge (as measured by battery charger) in a few days.
Any ideas from the Saabnet brain trust?
(Edit: Of course I could compare it with the draw on my '97 CSE which does not have this problem but I'm not looking forward to disconnecting the battery and losing all settings in that car as well.)
