Update on the knock. Pulled the oil pan after a few hours (and a few choice words) and rotated the assembly with #1 at TDC. Pulled the caps from #1 and #4 and... the picture tells the story. The #4 bearing shells are on the left vs. the #1 on the right. Thankfully the journals so far look perfect - still polished and no heat marks or other scoring. Picked up a new set of Sealed Power bearings and will start rolling those in after checking the clearance with plastigage.
My theory is the #4 hit the right frequency vs. oil pressure leading to the knock sound, and the sound did seem to emanate from the back of the block vs. front where #1 would be.
I'll pull #2 & #3 this weekend and check but this looks like the root cause.
