Post-mortem on the knocking issue.
The crank surface was fine - zero marks or other damage. The softer bearing material took the hit thankfully. I rolled in all new Sealed Power rod bearings and checked with Plastigage, all within spec between .038 & .051 mm. Lubricated with engine assembly lube and reinstalled the oil pan and other lower extremities. Filled with 5w30 and cranked without spark plugs until I had oil pressure. I have a mechanical VDO oil pressure gauge and once started I show 50 psi cold and 20 psi warm at idle. Oil pressure goes to 35 at 2,000 RPM and maxes out at 50 at 3,000 RPM.
The engine is running perfectly and has zero noises so it looks like this was the root cause. My oil pressure improved as the standard is about 10 psi for every 1,000 RPM.
So lesson learned. Turn off the radio now and then and listen to the car for any odd sounds. Thankfully I caught this early with zero other damage. Looking forward to takin' her down to SOC'24 in PDX
