I had similar experience when installing struts on my '98 Aero-spec CSE. The car fundamentally sat too high for my taste, especially in the front (I like a little rake). My solution was to use spring clamps in the front, which put the ride at just the right height for me. Not an ideal solution by any means, but a functional and inexpensive one. Some will surely decry my use of spring clamps, but I've used them in several applications over the last 30+ years without issue, and they have now been on my 9k for several thousand miles over the last 18 months with no issues (including auto-x'ing the car). Ride quality seems mostly unaffected, but handling did improve noticeably. For whatever it's worth...
