Suggestions for 1996 Saab CSE Turbo 5-speed?

My Saab 9000 CSE Turbo 5-speed is immobilized, with an undiagnosed transmission failure, at a small commercial garage in Flint, Michigan. That garage will only install a whole transmission and will not rebuild the existing one. They are also unwilling or unable to diagnose the specific issues with the transmission and the parts needed to rebuild it. I have yet to find a whole transmission to purchase and ship, or some other shop in the region interested in a transmission rebuild nor have I found a whole car to purchase in order to cannibalize parts. Apart from the transmission, the car is in excellent condition with only 170,000 miles. Could anyone suggest a solution, other than scrapping, to this problem?
