Sounds a little unusual for a shop to be that demanding on how they're going to make a repair. I certainly wouldn't let them do anything to the car after they give you those kinds of Demands I would certainly give Rob a call out at scanwest in Seattle just talk to him today he is rebuilding 9000 5-speed Transmissions. If you can find anybody that has any kind of skills you should be able to get the transmission pulled in an hour or so and put back in if you can get it out to Rob in Seattle that would probably be your best bet. It's also not cheap if I had to guess you're probably in the $3,000 range and that does not include shipping. If you were closer to Missouri I would definitely be able to help.
