I totally agree with these points. The most important being increased protection during engine startup. It's been claimed, and I tend to agree, that engine startups account for the majority of engine wear: I've seen unsubstantiated numbers in the 90% range.
I wouldn't read in too much on the Mobil/BMW test though, unless these tests included engine restarts from a cold engine (varied degrees of tempratures to simulate seasonal changes).
NOTE: I've got 3 cars, none of which are running synthetics! :-( Don't care about my 90 Corolla, my 89 900TC would probably pee it out [leak], my new 97 CSE, however, will use it.
