Hi ! I call Mine Sally (90 9KT) and It had start problems too. You must find out where the weak link is, so:
1. Do the lights work nice and bright? If yes the battery is OK
No? then you have either a battery that won't hold a charge or a bad charging system
2. Then does the starter turn and the engine just doesn't catch? or do you just hear a faint click? (this is a very commom problem. See Townsend site for ways to bypass a weak soleniod. (if you just hear a click)
3. Ign switch could definitly be bad especially if this is happening in warm weather
4. To test voltage supply, first clean and tighten all connections between the starter and the battery and be sure your grounds are all good.
Then use a fused jumper wire and jump between the battery positive and the yellow wire on the starter (it's a difficult reach. so try it with the key off so it won't start) The starter should engage and crank the engine.
If this works you have narrowed the problem down to voltage supply to the start solenoid. It is controlled through the Ign. switch, the gear switch lockout (PRND321) on an automatic and I believe a switch on the clutch in standards.
I know this was a bit helter skelter in description, but you get the idea.
I solved mine with a start button that Always works if the regular turn of the key fails. I turned my "Sally" into a MarkII Jaguar. CW
