Richard-I've had the experience of being on both sides of the fence. My 88 SPG handled better than anything I've EVER had the pleasure of driving but the 9000 is an incredible ride. MOST importantly-I totaled our 89CDT at parkway speed a few yrs ago. I hit 3/4 frontal (supposedly the most deadly type of crash) the stone support bridge of an overpass at which point the car bounced across the parkway median to be struck by an oncoming Jeep Grand Cherokee (also at 60 mph). I vivdly recall thinking I was dead as I was without a scratch while there were saab parts all across the road and heavy damage to the front end of the SUV. The entire front end of my 9k was crumpled to the windshield-the bag went off and I escaped any injury at all. Also-the passenger side where the jeep struck barely intruded into the cabin and the windshield had only cracked not exploded. Both myself-and our dog-a small terrier-walked unscathed while the jeep occupants susatined multiple injuries and whiplash-SUV's dont touch saab safety standards. I will forever drive saabs for these reasons-we have three 9000's and are planning on a 9-5 shortly. I replaced the autobox on the old 91 turbo-what a great ride-at 90k and its great at 150 now. so buy one-you wont be sorry and if anything should happen you know your loved ones are in the safest thing on 4 wheels.
