you might be able to hear an audible 'tooting' sound around 4000rpm. Sounds almost like a steam whistle.
The bypass valve on my 9-3 ruptured under boost (1.1 bar) and as I underdstand this is a common symptom.
I too replaced it with a Bailey dump valve. It is very reliable, and sounds great.
