electronic component burnt smell. Removed DI from engine, removed cover from DI, and spotted the toasted / roasted transformer and overheated potting compound. An old tech joke is that the manufactures put foul smelling smoke inside resistors, transistors, caps, and transformers so when they quit and crack the crap comes out to notify you that its belly up. You may have a smell, you may not.... Take it out, put proper plugs in it laying it down to ground plugs to motor, hook up connector, turn over engine. (Use starter its a bitch to pick up the car and roll it over) Look for sparkies on da plugs.. This can eliminate the DI. By now you'd think most of us 9k guys would just have a danged DI in the closet. You can postpone that kidney transplant get a DI. Can you crack a fuel joint o on engine and see if ya gots fuel pressure? Not exactly a fire safe thing to do, but better than the idiots who fuel their cars up next to me and the driver keeps his coffin nail lit on the dash so he can get it real quick when he is done.
