a longer than normal time. 97 Aero, 22,000 mi., 5 speed.

1. Voltage drop whenever ACC cycles on in “Auto” mode:
a. The voltmeter shows a significant drop when the ACC cycles on while driving, going from 14.0 down to 13.3 or less for a fraction of a second, then back up to the previous reading (14.0 or whatever). I noticed this while driving at 65 mph, headlights on, cabin AC fan on manual ‘high’ setting and I heard the AC interior fan momentarily drop it’s speed about ever 15 seconds or so. After experimenting with this, I found the only way to prevent the cyclical voltage drop is to turn the ACC to “Econ” and eliminate the AC compressor (and extra cooling fans, etc) from turning on. Then, there is no voltage drop (other than the slight change as you turn on additional items).
b. This is definitely not a normal condition – the other 9000 Turbos I have don’t show any large voltage fluctuations when the AC compressor cycles on / off.

2. Starting engine cranking is longer than other 9000’s; voltage drop on battery readout is also much lower. Is starter operating normally? Is Trionic start sequence okay?
a. When cranking the motor over on a cold start, especially if the car’s been outside in cooler temps, the engine needs to crank for 4 to 5 seconds before it catches and starts to run. The voltage drops to as low as 9.8 when it’s pretty cold (below freezing); to 10.1 to 10.3 these days at 45 or 50 degrees.
b. The battery is brand new – installed about two months ago. Spark plugs are brand new, NGK BCPR 7ES, gapped at .039 per Saab specs. The oil is synthetic, also very recently changed. Putting in the new battery and plugs made no improvement with this starting symptom (ie, it’s been doing this all winter and continues).
c. The other 9000 Turbos I have start much quicker, about 2 seconds max even when cold-soaked, and the starting voltage rarely drops below 11.5 with a good battery. I’ve never seen it routinely in the low 10.0 range in 14 years of owning 9000 Turbos and have never seen it at 9.8 and below until this car.

Any thoughts?
