So far, they've ordered a new EDU since the cranking low volt display is obviously too low. I know it's a redesigned EDU but I wonder about the durability. The 86 and 87 9000's I have both read cranking volts accurately and warned (nicely) that it was time for a new battery prior to being stranded at O'Hare after a sub-zero three day cold soak. They still haven't addressed the fan speed dropping with ACC turning on, something accompanied by a sizable volt drop, even if for just a second or so. The drop in fan speed is audible (as some of you mentioned dimming headlights) and perhaps it's a different aux fan design that draws more than the previous generation 9000 BUT those older 9000's have just as high an electrical load with lights on, wipers, seat heaters, ACC fans and I haven't seen or heard this dramatic fan speed change in many years of driving, while having the ACC cycle on/off.
They didn't find any problem with the starter or the ground wire, either. It's still under warranty (barely) so the incredible cost of the EDU will be picked up by Saab. I was hoping a weak ground might be causing both faults.
I do agree with Ari's point about getting too worked up over relatively minor fluctuations. The big fan speed drop plus seeing 8.5 volts on a cold start last week were just a bit over the edge for me.
