My experience with Saab is that if you bought the car new, you can expect some sympathy for a period after the warranty expires. If you bought used, I wouldn't count on anything, even if you purchased four new Saabs before your present used one like I did.
What they usually do with a "courtesy warranty" is ask you to pay the full amount, then they reimburse you with "vouchers," which are good for any services or products at your friendly neighborhood Saab dealer. If you plan on buying there, they are as good as cash. Otherwise, they are worthless.
With this '95 Aero, which had a few months of warranty left on it when purchased, I had some trouble when the BPC solenoid began misbehaving sporadically, and when I had it at the New Orleans dealer (70 miles away) at that time, it naturally behaved flawlessly--therefore, they wouldn't make any adjustment. I was told by Saab USA that after being diagnosed bad by a local indy, that I would be reimbursed if replaced there. But after the fact, they were reluctant to cooperate, though in the end I did get some vouchers. In my case, it all ended well, though it was a bumpy ride. What pissed me off was their "crawfishing," as we say here in Cajun country--taking a position and then backing out later. Based on this, you may find the road rocky trying to get repair done after the warranty has expired, but if the car was purchased new by you, you're in a much better position than if bought used.
Regardless, if something goes wrong soon after the warranty, or later for repairs that are premature, hit Saab USA with a request. They can only say "no."
