I had a full Abbott exhaust put on my car (turbo back - also had Catco high flow cat put on) last January. I'm very pleased with the performance and sound, as well as the quality. The car just seems to breathe better, especially at higher rpms, and spool up is a little fast. The turbo whistle is MUCH louder, which I love, and the overall sound is deeper and more throaty when you get on the throttle, but barely noticeably increase at cruise. Anyhoo, that's what I like. What I DON'T like is the fitment. It took me and the shop owner (ok mostly him - and he does this for a living) the better part of a day, about five hours to get the thing so it wouldn't rub, rattle, or look weird. And even then, I had to come back a couple times later to fix rattles! The worst part however, is how they arranged the tailpipe. Yours being a '93 and a CDE, this may not be a factor, or perhaps Abbott has done some checking by now, and corrected their mistake. The tailpipe does NOT come out the stock hole! Or rather, it does, but requires you to cut away some of the under bumper valence to fit! To really see what I mean, just go to my web site (below) and look at the whole system. The other thing that really shocked me, which has somewhat lessened and I have learned to live with, is that if you are deccelerating in gear at anything over 2500 rpm, you get popping out the tailpipe. The higher the rpm, the louder and more persistant it is, to the point of being very close to a backfire at high rpms and/or going down steep hills. After weeks of discussing with folks and trying to get a hold of Abbott, they admitted that their customers in Europe specifically asked for that 'feature'! Oh, thanks for telling me BEFORE I had it installed!!
Anyhoo.. Now for the Swedish Dynamics system. A member of our local Saab club had their cat-back system installed on his '95 9000 Aero, which should be closer to your car than to mine. We went on a Fun-Run with our club, and everyone was amazed at the sound of his exhaust. Was it cool? You bet. Was it illegal? Probably. Was it deafening? Without a doubt. Let me explain. When he nailed the throttle, his car - and this is not an exaggeration - sounded like a small jet engine. Not a deep roar, we're talking full on high pitched hiss. He passed me going up a mountain road when I had my windows down and I almost went deaf! It was LOUD! We were cruising down the interstate later, going 80+, he was about five or six carlengths ahead of me, I had all my windows closed and just the sunroof open. He nailed the throttle and I could still hear it quite loud! Anyhoo, he switched just the rear muffler back to stock, and the noise went away.. I am not sure if SD ever got back to him, though I am pretty sure he sent the rear muffler in for them to check. Swedish Dynamics does advertise that they use a special resonated tip to prevent the popping sound on decceleration. However, I think I'd rather have the popping than sound like a jet at full throttle (cool as that is, it would get old).
