Well, I think this may be a fuel prob, but here goes a description for all the diagnosticians out there.
Car is a 90 9KT, 145k miles.
Fuel filter is 10k old.
Returning to the Gulf Coast on the last leg of 7000 mile jaunt around the country. The car has behaved flawlessly- until...leaving Illinois this AM. Drove 101 miles, got on the on-ramp of I-57, accelerated at the top of the ramp, just grabbed 5th and 60 mph and the car bucked and coasted to a stop.
Hummm. Sat there for a moment and thought about the situation. Could be worse- could be a lot better. Attempted to restart the beast, but she wouldn't fire. Well the problem is either fuel or fire or both.
So, I get a tow back to the last town. Small town. They've heard of them SAABs. Pronounced the "AA" like the "a" in "cat". Well, I figured with my guidance and Josh's undaunted confidence, we should be able to determine which of the two culprits were missing.
Easiest to check was spark. Pulled the DI; cranked engine, had spark; put the DI back down. Josh wanted to listen. Turned it over again. The damn thing started right up. Thought about it for a while- well, I'm not looking forward to driving the next 10 hours wondering when silence will strike again; so, returned to the in-laws. 101 miles. Not so much as a quiver. That's the story. Even tested it under some high acceleration loads
Now, you all know as much as I do about this problem.
One further note. About 8 months ago, it was "stuttering" during acceleration- like passing or merging onto the freeway. Did it a couple of times again returning from Illinois. Ran a can of fuel treatment thru it and have not had the problem since. Coincidence?
So, where to start? What's the chance that this alchol "enriched" fuel up here has "cleaned-up".
Fuel Pump?, Relay?, Regulator?, Crank Sensor?. Any ideas would be most welcome. Sorry for the long post. Thanks to all
