Why I'm not getting a new Saab for Christmas (long)

As posted above, my 91 9kT has a serious ailment in its steering. It's out of action, period. Also due are motor mounts and brake work. Facing this kind of ouch situation, we went to Santa Clara today to look at new cars.
My wife drives an '00 9-5 wagon, and it suits her utterly. My take is that it isn't even remotely what I want to succeed my current wheels.
So 0% financing on all 9-3's seemed a good reason to try one out. And, they are posted with more HP than my '91. They've cleaned up the shape a bit too, and the ergonomics will work for me (really like the rear seat-back set-up, actually.)
And I drove it, in 2002 ES form, including a bit of freeway. What a disappointment! If it has 210 HP, somebody isn't feeding those animals! My indy says my '91 has been tweaked, which may be so, but it goes like a catapult when I put my foot down (discovered without meaning to that it will break traction at 30 in second gear); subjectively, the 9-3 5-speed I was in this morning was no quicker than my wife's LPT 9-5 automatic--it didn't push me into the seat. The handling is pleasant, at best--not up to OG 900 standards at all. And the ride is about like my 9kT, which wears go-fast tires.
It was not love, or anything remotely like it -- not even lust! And even at 0% and a thou off for owner loyalty, $30k over 36 months is $833 each moon for a long time.
So the 91 gets fixed, even if it costs another bunch. It's the best car I've ever had, it is what I want to drive, and arriving at this decision/realization was worth the drive home in Xmas weekend traffic on the 101!
