It's pretty straigh-forward, leave the car on the ground, loosen the bolts holding the upper a-arm brackets to the spring towers under the hood, push against the fender with your hips to get the brackets to shift over enough to pull some shims out. They're slotted on the bottom, so all you have to do it loosen the bolts to drop new ones in, or remove some. I linked a photo of what the shims look like below.
DO NOT REMOVE THE BOLTS COMPLETELY!
Depending on how many shims you have to take out, you may affect the toe setting (steer angle alignment) enough to cause problems. Taking shims out will toe both front wheels IN, the stabilizing direction, but will also wear the tires abnormally quickly.
Setting the alignment is something most any decent alignment shop can do, make sure you spray the threads on the outer tie rods with PB Blaster or other penetrating oil before you take it in, they can corrode on there pretty solid.
If you want to try that yourself, the factory spec is to have the wheels essentially parallel to each other at ride height, the spec calls for them slightly toed inwards, like 1/8" closer at the front of the rims versus the rear lip of the rims. You might have to get creative how to measure that, there are lots of good shade-tree racer type pages of various things you can do to measure it. Search around.
Hope that helps some.
Best,
Drew
