Fuel distributor part numbers and a caution Posted by Gary Stottler [Email] (#1463) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Gary Stottler) on Wed, 17 Nov 2010 15:59:30 In Reply to: fuel distributor, James Dale [Profile/Gallery] , Wed, 17 Nov 2010 15:34:47 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
James,
Here are the Bosch and Saab part numbers, I have these because I went through the same drill on my EMS when I got it (see "caution" below)
0 438 100 005 (1975-1977 non-lambda, Saab part number 02 09 213 no longer available from Saab)
0 438 100 023 (1978-1980 non-lambda, Saab part number 02 09 288 supercedes to 93 02 936 still available from Saab ~$400)
0 438 100 032 (1978-1980 lambda - all turbo and non-turbo California, Saab part number 02 09 270, don't know if it is available)
I believe that a 023 would work and would actually be preferable to an 005 because (here's the caution):
The original 75-77 distributors had a mild steel diapragm, and if there was ever any water in the fuel it would rust holes in that diapragm which would cause one of the injectors to be "on" all the time the fuel pump was on regardless of the airflow vane position. This was the case with my EMS when I got it. The 78-80 distributors have a stainless steel diaphragm and don't have this problem.
So, if you get an 005 unit, make sure you can return it if you get it installed and find out it has the perforated diaphragm. I don't know how to tell without installing it on the car.
I would also suggest that you contact Mike Connelly at ConnTech in Rhode Island - he is a great source of 99 parts and info and would certainly guarantee you got a good part.
Best,
Gary
