That's a great question. Yes, they both have springs, but I did not disassemble the spring in the MG one since it has a special mechanism that the Saab one does not have for releasing the spring after the tensioner is installed. I'm travelling this week, but I'll try to remember at some point to take the MG spring mechanism apart and compare the two - it would be good if the amount of spring tension was the same.
