I think my Smiths PCV is not working correctly.
Although I patched the obvious crack with black RTV (oil resistant), I still can't get idle down to an acceptable level. When I block the crankcase breather (at both ends), idle comes right down. If I block the tiny breather hole in the PCV cover, no idle change (before patching, idle would rise).
Is the diaphragm supposed to be somewhat-flexible plastic - or very flexible "rubber"?
Is there a reasonable modern substitute?
I'm still working on solving any other possible vacuum leaks...
