I have learned the following: From 1975 onward the B head had a cam bearing diameter of approx 29 mm. This was an increase from earlier cam bearing surface diameter of approx 27 mm. The cam box was identical to earlier cam boxes except for the diameter of the bearings (both boxes actually have alignment pins where they meet the head). The later heads, meaning the heads with the larger diameter cam bearing surface, had a smaller bolt head -smaller thread , on the exhaust manifold. So the heads with the smaller 8 mm studs at the exhaust manifold were equipped with the larger diameter cam bearing surface on the cam box.
