i know this is 16 years old but i am going through the same thing after engine out and new bushings.
car rides about 2" taller than it did before. at first it sat 4-5" taller and after diving around it setled but its still 4" between top of tire and fender.
there are no amount of shims that would make this alignment work.
solution may be to take front springs back out of the suspension and into the customer spring shop to have them "lowered"
-i have excellent suspension travel with the springs out of the car
- the weight of the car simply does not compress the front spring far enough..
-when driving the car, if i stab the brakes it does dive down quite a bit but comes right back up to the abnormal ride height.
how did the spring stiffen??
why is the car "lighter"??
EDIT:
found that the ball joint set from MOOG is just over an half inch taller on the top and bottom in comparison to the old ones on the donor!
combined this is just over an inch.. with the angle that they point in to the pinion i believe changing this will bring it back to normal ride height.
