I was banging both the pin and diaphragm in on the car with the fuel pump running and the pressure gauges attached. We are fortunate, the WUR is easily accessible on the car. It takes some touch, like tap, no go... tap, no go... tap, no go... tap, oh dang! You watch the gauge after each hit and wait a bit for the pressure to stabilize. The cold pin is touchy, a little hit moves the pressure a lot.
To bang them out, I had the WUR off the car on a block of wood and disassembled. This was done before any rebuilding. For the pin/post, I put the old nut on and barely threaded it on and used a wood block to drive it out flush with the housing. The idea is to protect the threads. For the diaphragm, I used a large socket, I think a 24mm, and clamped the housing with the diaphragm overhanging and banged it until it was out about 4mm.
That Australian rebuilder I linked has a nice kit. It comes with a spring too. My spring looked fine and original with the ends ground flat so I didn't need a spring.
