I can recall seeing some yokes with shims added, but it had to have been 30+ years ago. There was a discussion on one of the facebook groups recently and an ex-Saab tech said he shimmed calipers many times, and he mentioned they were riveted in place. That almost made me remember seeing rivets way back when, but short of drilling holes in the yoke, I don't know how they could rivet them. The material used was tinny, which makes me think of steel pop cans from the 70's. The Girling diagram below shows only one dimension to measure, but as Bob mentioned, there's two more sides that could wear and cause slop. Normally the yoke spring would take up that slop, but if it's too worn, the spring can't fill the gap. To solve that problem I made it a habit to bend the tip of the spring to fill the gap. Clamp the spring in a vice with 1/4" exposed and rap the tip with a hammer. It's very tout and not so easy to bend. If you bend it too much you'll never be able to slide the housing back onto the yoke, so you'd have to whack it again to bend the tip back a little.
I don't think I ever welded new material onto the yoke because back then parts were readily available, but very hard to find now a days. Welding and shaping with a grinder may be an option.
