I don't think I misread anything, I just wanted to indicate that the #2 spring would have nothing to do with the return from start...that is all in the ignition switch. Now I am not against removing the reverse lockout, but if the key isn't returning to the RUN position, taking out that gear will not change a thing. That gear, and that spring have done all the moving they will do as soon as the key has reached the first position. The key and the gears attached to the bottom of the key cylinder move pretty much independant of the lockout gears from then on.
I suppose something could have gotten locked up in there and for some reason is wanting to hold the key in the start position but I doubt it. Either way, all of us are just giving advice. we'll all have a better idea once the thing has been taken apart and what not.
