Remember, no question is a dumb question, before you begin reading my questions. DougM can tell you, I'm somewhat impatient and trying to change that. I'm also a novice mechanic.

Got the Head off with cam, rocker, springs, valves all still attached.

Q1) Do I have to remove everything before I take it to the machine shop?

I was trying to keep it simple by keeping it all together.

Although the engine only has 82k miles on it, the pistons and piston chambers look like they have a lot of carbon deposits. They're dark, not smooth and shiny.

Q2) What should they look like after 82k miles? Since I'm taking it apart, does it make sense to put new pistons in?

The engine and trans ran great before removal. I planned on driving it for another 60k and begin rebuilding my other spare

Q3) When I make it to the machine shop - What do I ask them for?

Did some web searching and there is a host of info on Head testing and cleaning.
