8500rpm MSS built motor questions Posted by DougM [Email] (#211) [Profile/Gallery] (more from DougM) on Mon, 6 Oct 2003 09:04:20 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
So I have one sitting in my garage. My intentions are to install it in my 75EMS w/62,860 one owner miles...which currently has the engine and tranny out of it because the engine bay is filthy and needs cleaned and re-painted.
The pistons are clearly stamped MSS, the crank looks like it had some work done to it, the head has double valve springs, and I'm told a hot cam. Supposedly this motor was built for a 74 99 rally car, but it only ran for half a season because it was wrecked. Now I own it..:)
I want to keep the engine bay stock looking(for right now) because I am restoring this car to showroom condition...ie. future concours winner!?!
What can I expect as far as performance gains using the stock K-jet set-up? Can any mods be made(un-noticeable) to the fuel system? Will the original water pump and radiator be enough to handle extra heat from higher revs? Can I use a stock head gasket or are heavy duty ones available.(I have plenty of stock ones on the shelf). Will the original tranny be able to accomodate/handle the higher revs?(I have another tranny which was mated to the motor, but I know nothing about how it was built). The engine will also have a MSS header attached to it.....and I have an ANSA muffler and tailpipe I got from ebay. The original owner also had front and rear swaybars put on as well as Konis on all four corners.
I have all winter and summer to get it ready for SOC04....and to scavenge parts. I have no experience modding fuel systems or cooling systems, but I imagine there is some info on the internet. Any input/comments/suggestions are appreciated.
