both types of fans aren't all that messy... Posted by Dan [Email] (#2459) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Dan) on Wed, 23 Feb 2005 18:35:04 In Reply to: The reason I asked the year, Sven, Wed, 23 Feb 2005 16:12:48 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
The early (up to '74)fans are easier to get to but really, the later ('74 on) fans aren't the tough part. the blades for the fan extend all the way through the heater box. The two can separate (rubber tabs hold the two together...and the tabs are attached to the blades) but you'll probably have to remove the blades to put the two pieces back together right. Then the problem is lining the fans up with the far bearing, the one quite covered by all the heater valve crap. The fan motor is totally accessible but like other's have said, its the brass bearings that tend to go. The resister is an easily removed part so if there is a fear of breakage, remove it first.
Good luck.
