I can't agree more with you, Kevin. The peoples choice awards given at the various shows I have been to have been nothing more than a popularity contest...shake hands with everyone...hey, vote for me!
The concours events are really not biased at all. I helped judge one at the 2005 convention, and pretty much all cars were scrutinized based on a list of criteria towards originality. My 73 was certainly not built as a concours car, since I up-graded alot of things that were no where near 73 vintage. I personally like the challenge to try and build one as close to original as possible. The 75EMS was restored with that in mind, but I had a good core to start with. The challenge now-a-days is to find good quality used parts to be able to complete a restoration as close to factory condition as possible, without spending a small fortune to do it. I know of an east coaster that spent $2500 to have a 78T interior re-stitched. That certainly is not in my budget, so if it takes me longer to do it, then so be it. The people who pay others to build such a car for them lose alot of credibility in my book. I understand that not everyone can do everything on the planet, but if you never try, and pay others to do it for you, then you've not gained as much in the way of personal satisfaction. I guess that's one of the reasons why I take so many pictures > to show others that's it's not impossible to do it yourself, as well as inspirational.
Kevin, digital cameras are very inexpensive, so get off your communion money and go buy one already.:) Mine was $800 brand new in 2001, and now you can find one on ebay for less than $50.
