Well, it's a done deal... I paid for the car years ago, and had been waiting patiently all along, but yesterday was finally my day of reckoning.
A long 18 hour day was all it took. Ride to CT, U-Haul rental, load the car up, grab some other parts here and there, dinner with some SAAB comrades, then back up here to the southern Maine Coast. All that and my dream car is finally sitting out in front of my place.
It's actually not the same 78 turbo I had originally made arrangements for, but this one taking it's place, is just as good if not better. The body, I'd have to rate about 95 percent. Only the most minor of surface rust here and there, the hood is more or less shot, but probably will be the easiest part to come by for this project. Only 1 small kink in the front driver's fender keeps this body from being perfect.
I am however looking at some potentially serious interior work, due to to 6 inch thick ice cubes that had formed on the floor from the leaking sunroof, and who knows what else from there.
The motor is a tad up in the air right now, as far as whether or not it will crank, we'll just have to see. It will of course remain a turbo B motor, none of this 16V nonsense. It's just a matter of how much it will actually need.
So anyhow, now is the time when I start to chip away at it. I'm sure I'll be posting plenty asking for help and advice, and probably parts too. If anyone is in or around the southern Maine or NH seacoast areas and would be willing to offer me any support, please let me know, I'm sure I'll need it :-)
As for now, I'm gonna go back outside and stare at it some more...
