Jim, I'm more familiar with the earlier senders. However, in a previus search for mine, I seem to remember that year's ohm resistance has a pretty good interchange unlike the earlier ones. I think a classic 900 can work. What you need to match is the ohm resistance, and adapt the sending unit resistor to your mounting plate if needed. Unfortunately, without a functioning unit to measure, you can't start. You could grab a 900 one out of a yard, and wire it in, then move the float up and down to see if that is right values. I think it is. I saved a '78 gauge to do this if needed down the road. Then you simply need to adapt the resistor to yours. Try contacting Scanwest Auto in Seattle. They could probably offer you a sender or steer you in the right direction. Best of luck.
