Success!!! Now to Hunt for a Part

All it took was a 4 lb sledge and a few minutes of hitting the eye and then wedging the separator into it. I used a small hydraulic jack to support the end of the hub so that any downward blows from the hammer would be reacted by the jack and help prevent bad things from happening to the hub.
Now, for something completely different: my impulse switch is completely broken (unrelated to my hammering at the tie rods :) ). It's the little black cylinder that sits next to the ignition coil, has a vacuum line into the top and two electrical leads coming off the bottom. I understand that they are no longer available, but I'm wondering if there's a substitute. I've driven the car a long time with it broken, and it's fine (except for some back fire when cold, though I don't know if it's related). If I can't get a replacelment, I'm thinking of (a) just leaving it, or (b) putting a jumper between the two electrical leads.
Any advice about this?
