Well, you made me go do some more homework. :)
The pic below shows the two tie rods used through the whole year range for 99's. The one on the left is the coarser thread(coarser thread on the stud and also the female threads that screws onto the rack), which was used on the 75-up racks, and the finer thread which was used on the -74 racks. I miced the tapers and they are the same dimensions. The rack which came out of my 74 used the coarser thread, so I doubt it was original? What I do know is the rack from my '74 bolted up to my '73....so, if my 74 had a later style rack installed before I bought it, there was no issue installing it in an earlier(pre 74) car.
