I had the 76 tranny until a year and a half ago when it finally went, Scan West put a rebuilt 1980 4 speed tranny in (if I would have been thinking I would have had them do the 5 speed conversion as the cost would have been the same). I am normally at about 4k on the freeway which is between 75 and 80.
I think the 78 99T as a turbo would be worth more than the 76 99 as a turbo, but at the same time it really doesn't matter unless you are building a show car that you are going to sell after a short time. It sounds like the 76 could be a somewhat quick project, and the quicker the project the more likely it will get finished.
