OK, first, using the ENTIRE wiring set-up is really a bit silly as the two cars aren't the same. Just swap in what you need. (namely the LH system, if that is what you've opted to go with, and the wires for the distributor, etc.) Use the fuse box if you'd like but some just modify the 99 version by inserting a cut-out from the 900 box where the ceramic fuses go.
Yes, you can move the firewall back all you'd like. The problem is the mounting for the AC. On a 900, the AC is the belt furthest from the engine. If you can devise a way to slide it closer, along with a similar move for the idler pulley, then you can do it. The 900 compressor is not the smalles unit out there and you may consider something newer. On one conversion I didn't have the desire to have my 3 groove crank pulley machined down to two grooves so I just made the space. The other problem is in what to do with the alternator as it comes terribly close to the brake booster. There are different option and I've got my method but most of us are making this up as we go along. Anyway find a way to get the AC compressor to line up with the second goove on the crank pulley and barring the extremely tight space you'll be leaving yourself, a sledge hammer and some imagination can accomplish just about anything. Now, will it look good? that portion of the equation will take some mad skills.
Vintage Air has different systems that can be used in older applications that may in fact be easier. Don't forget to check those folks out.
