Ok, so I looked through my '69-'74 service manual which covers the Borg Warner 3 speed autos (I don't know if it's exactly the same as you have, but should be very close).
It specifically says that the fluid does not need to be changed, but should be checked and topped off. The pre '75 cars that there are photos of in my manual do not even have ATF drain plugs, just one for final drive oil, and one for engine oil.
Does yours have an ATF drain plug?
I looks like when you tear one down most of the fluid is going to be drained by cracking the side covers that seal the sump, and the cover with the routing passages cast into it, so short of that, I don't think there's a way to get it all out without pulling the input shaft from the flex plate, and rotating the trans in gear with the wheels up off the ground to spin the pump and pump all the oil out.
Can you put a hose down into the dipstick port and syphon the fluid out?
NOTE: My manual states many many times to maintain surgical cleanliness when servicing or even checking the oil in these, it looks like the early ones may not have filters, and any little bit of dirt or lint or whatever can cause problems with the regulating valves.
Best,
Drew
