Chris;
You may have a worn ignition switch, multi terminal switch on the bottom side of the ignition key, held in by two screws which may have sealant on them. Check for loose connections on the switch, remove the two screws and remove the switch with the wires still connected. Try operating the switch with a screw driver and see if the problem occurs, and see if you can get the gauges to work by fiddling with the switch.
