Okay, after reading as many messages as I could find on this, I've gathered some parts and am just about ready for the next step. I'm going the route of least resistance and most acceptance (I think).
I scrounged a fan from a 900T, and also got the coupling and a new Wahler thermo switch. The plan is to:
- Saw off the protruding shaft from the existing fan assembly (and not bother any further with it, like pulling the rest out and plugging it).
- Then I'll attach the fan to the existing radiator (I hope that's not a real pain).
- Next, mount the T coupling in line with the radiator and engine block, with the new Wahler switch.
- Wire the switch through the spare fuse on the existing block.
- Wire an additional switch to the dash as a backup to the automatic one.
Questions I have:
1. Does the stock alternator have enough current to power a single 900T fan? The 900T uses 2 fans, so I'm thinking that one shouldn't be a problem. Or is it?
2. Is a relay necessary, or is it reasonable to wire everything directly (through the fuse block, of course)?
