I just finished an exhaustive bout with the clutch master and slave cylinder; (rebuilt both, and had a helluva time replaceing the tube from the master to the slave, and getting the air out of the hose that finally
held the pressure. ) Mine acted the same way; I shut it down to fix a leak
in the radiator and when I put the radiator bak on, and fired it up the clutch wouldn't disengage: grinding teeth in reverse and 1'st. Rebuilding both cyls., and getting the clutch nut adjusted right finally got me up and running again. In the process I found out it is easy to overadjust the
clutch adjusting nut in either direction, it seems to be ver sensitive, in
increments of a flat or two on the nut. And dont forget to hold the bolt while you tighten the nut, else you can back the bolt out, and then screw it bak in when you tighten the nut. If youve got over 100K on the engine and the clutch seemed to be working ok be4, I would suggest rebuilding the
master and slave clutch cylinder, if you haven't recently. I is easier than
pulling the engine, it might fix it, and it gives you an an increased sense
of confidence when you finally get it going. If not, pull the damn engine,
its not that hard, and replace all the damn water hoses while you can get to them! Luck?
