1. There are roughly three times as many gaskets involved, which makes them much more prone to air leakage around the base. Potentially makes the engine run just a wee bit lean; not enough to be obvious at first but enough to jeopardize lubrication and make the engine run too hot
2. The cold start mechanism wears out, and starts leaking thru. Not as noticeable performance-wise since only one of the carbs actually has a choke, but makes the engine VERY thirsty for fuel
3. The fact that they are smaller than the single carb increases air speed thru them, which makes the carbs run colder, which makes them much more sensitive to ice forming than a single carb is, even at temperatures well above freezing point
Ok, sure the single carb has weak points too but they are much much easier to setup and maintain.
