In lieu of someone more expert than i, will venture a guess. I have destroyed two used pressure plates, because I wasn't careful about lowering the engine into the engine bay when I was putting it back to mate with the transmission, which was still in the car. If you put the engine back with the transmission in place, the input shaft of the tranny tends to hit the pressure plate at various places instead of the hole it is meant to go into. This often wrecks the pressure plate, expessially if it is used. You mention you had the transmission out to put a rear mount in.
So I'm wondering if you mated the tranny to the engine and put them in as one unit, or put the tranny in , then the engine? Especially did you put a new pressure plate in or a used one? If the tranny worked ok before the ohaul, I see no reason for it to go bad just by putting it back together.
Did you adjust the clutch slave cylinder according to specs? I think 1/16"
between the push rod and the clutch shifter. The adjustment is on the opposite side of the bell housing as the slave cylinder. Perhaps the throwout bearing slipped out of place, it is just held together with a couple of wires if memory serves me. If that slipped out of place, perhaps
it would cause a racket. I would check in this order: 1) recheck the rear tranny mount to see that it is snug and bolted up tight. 2)Check the slave cyl. adjustment. 3) As far as I know you will have to pull the engine to check the pressure plate and throwout bearing. Perhaps peering through the inspection plate on top of the tranny with a flashlight may help. Good Luck, thats all I can think of.
