Beautifaul Pic Martin! Yes I would say that is excessive! And it makesx me wonder why somebody would jinx it up like that! To keep from changing a wornout clutch plate? Anyway the proper clearance is like Bob said (earlier post), about 3/16". I haven't checked the manual, but I trust he is right. I know it is not much. The adjusting nut, is on the other side of the tranny from the slave cyl. I just went out to look at mine with a flashlight, it is really hidden; just in fron of what I think is the freewheeling pivot arm. It is a square bolthead with a jam nut to lock it with. It is on the bell housing about 4 " below the right lower corner of the little inspection plate. You have to get on the pass. side to get to it. Look for the inspection plate and then down about 4". You might play with different adjustments if your in a hurry, to see what effect they have. If I remember right, you back the square bolt out, (counter clockwise) to engage the clutch more, in to decrease clearance. With those shims, you may not have enough adjustment left to get proper clearance, but at least you;ll see where your at! Good Luck. Phil Beam, WaKeeney, Ks.
