Since i'm still waiting for a reply on another board ill ask here:
When my '67 2 sroke engine was actually in the car and running, this is what happened. . . Every time i would rev the engine, as the revs dropped i could hear a knocking noise (not ignition ping, i mean an actual knock sound. . like somehting loose). This also could be noticed by a very, VERY slight tap in the clucth pedal when it was depressed. This noise occured with the clutch disengaged and engaged. I have heard it could be as simple as a bad throwout bearing in the clutch, but recent inquiries yield responses saying it could also be a cracked piston skirt or a bad rod-bearing. Can anyone tell me what would be the most likely? I already have the engine apart and the crankshaft unit out. There aren't any noticable cracks in any of the skirts, and all the rods seem to swing just fine. They all hav the same amount of lateral play in them (rocking back and forth on the journal, like the ID of the bearing is just bigger than the OD of the journal. .) and the same amount of side-to-side play in terms of distance to each counterweight. There is a bit of scuffing at the bottom of the exhaust side of cylinder 1, slight scuffing at the bottom intake side of cylinders 1-3, & both sides of the piston (around the pin) are scuffed/coked. There is the smallest of chips in the side of piston 1 about 3/4" below the wrist pin. Most of this is typical for an old 2 stroke according to my tuning book. Can anyone help? sorry for the length. . i thought id be specific. ..
