Cody, Could you please identify the style of 67 stroker you may have, Pre mix oil in tank, oil pump motor, green block (LD), or red its hot , oil pump M/C motor. Two issues come to mind first hand, Wrist pin needle bearing condition and fit ( diassembly required) and piston clearance fit, ( ring removal/replacement required) once pistons taken off the rod's. Needle bearing fit in small end is light thumb PRESSURE and absolutely no bearing play. Piston fit varied wheather standard pistons ( all 3 rings same size ) .002- .003 NEW pistons/new bore, is used running condition .005 or more can (will?) cause noise. The M/C pistons have a thinner lower ring and the clearances were a bit larger .003-.0035 new and running used good motor will tolerate .005 clearances just fine.
Be aware chip lamb has new pistons availiable at 100.00 each with rings and new pin. I highly recommend you have new ones put in with requisite reboring to size as necessary. Do check ring end gap with new pistons, or if new rings are added to your old pistons (if you reuese them), need to be gap checked too. Two other issues come to mind, most stroker tuners can get carried away with fat jets and or float level 's too high. On overrun this backwash of too much fuel cam buld up on overrun RPM's and cause quite a buck/buckle sound that is fairly spaced out (2-3 seconds)
This coupled with partially plugged front muffler getting carbon chunks glowing red will also make a weird sound. Crank to block shimmimg is also important for the pre mix motor. donwollum at nc.rr.com
