This power rpm range is where the exhaust valve get's and stay's hot. Stock 96 for 1972 means the seats are soft head material and the exhaust valves ( if original) are not hardened/nor precious metal coated. Make sure 16-18 clearance on the exhaust valves befor you start this trip, and use a bit of valve lubricant. Just for the fun of it use premium fuel. Unheard detonation will spike combustion temps even higher, riskingh these original valves even more. Sans the above if the head was reconditioned with later non leaded fuel Ford Capri or the like valve parts. Given the above adjustment verification and premium fuel with valve lubricant (lead substitute) HAVE FUN...Don.
