Don,
One other thing does come to mind that was a problem for me recently- the inner drivers were very worn. The axle TEE's have some needle bearing cups on the end which fit into drivers on the sides of the transmission. I had shudder/judder on acceleration, particularly if the steering wheel was turned from center. I found much wear on the inside of the drivers, where the needle bearing cups ride. These can be replaced with good spares without removing the transmission, if that's a problem. I was able to troubleshoot but opening the rubber boot at the inner driver and sticking my finger in there (in the goop and slop of old grease) and could feel quite a ridge.
