If your gas is E-10 (10% ethanol) as is the case in many areas likely including yours, and throughout CA where I am, that mix does not ordinarly cause fuel system problems of any kind on modern vehicles. Your SAAB is not and issues may arise.
To comment more fully (as opposed to speculating which I will continue to do, I would waby a little more vehicle history, especially regarding long out-of-service intervals which may result in accumulation of goop in the fuel tank.
Speculation: Renewed service after long layover stirred up dormant goop in the fuel tank that clogged the filter. Further: E10 may have the effect of loosening accumulated goop that clogged the filter. A few filter changes will solve that as the debris is eliminated. Further 2: I have heard that methanol has occasionally been used as a gasoline additive where it should not have been. Methanol is highly corrosive to fuel system components and may be expected to clog filters, if that is the worst consequence thank your lucky stars. Further 3: Original or older replacement fuel lines may shed filter-clogging particles, regardless of fuel type or anything else.
Personally in the absence of fuller information to inform my approach, I would seek out a bigger fuel filter than those you have been using, find a place to install it for easy replacement, carry a spare, and expect the cloggage problem to disappear aftewr a few changes.
Most fuel filters for fuel injected vehicles are much larger physically than the ones you have been using and have much more filtering elementl. They will catch a lot more goop before choking.
