I have a 1970 95v4 with a 1.7 v4, I rebuilt the engine last winter all the way down to the block.
THe engine has brand new gaskets and rings...etc. I replaced the lower and upper hose and there are no restrictions on ether. The Rad was cleaned, did not need re coring. I have and electric fan pushing air.
So here is the Saab Story:
Rad is full coolant and there are no visible leaks, Drive the car few miles, maybe,4 miles, then temp gauge get to "N". Then as I pick up speed the temp increase, closer to the red, not in the red. Stays there for a few mins, them went coming to a stop light, and dropping to an Idle , car quickly drops to "N". When light turns , then speed increases, so does the temp. After driving it for a few miles. I pull over. I open the hood....Look around, There is coolant allover the floor of the engine bay, near the battery and on the transmission, also the the driver side, but not as much. From the looks of it, it looks to be spraying out, but from where? The rad at this point is close to empty. None of the hoses have holes.
I did a compression test and got 130 for all the cylinders, which is good I think?
While driving the car at higher speeds there are popping sound coming from the rear, not as loud
as a backfire , but noticeable, only at speed above 60mph! This could be a different problem...
I would so ideas thrown around? You guys are all very help full!
Thank You!
